Associate Professor Dr. Muhammad Najib is a former Deputy Dean and currently serves at the Faculty Shariah and Law, Universiti Sains Islam Malaysia (USIM). His areas of expertise include Usul Fiqh and Maqasid Al-Shariah in Islamic Finance, Comparative Mazhab & Al-Ijtihad. Since 2004, he has been actively teaching courses such as Principles of Islamic Jurisprudence, Maqasid Shariah, Fiqh Muamalat, Fatwa Management, Ijtihad and Manahij al-Fuqaha’ at the undergraduate level and Research Methodology at the Postgraduate level.

He obtained his Bachelor of Shariah from the Islamic University of Madinah, followed by a Master’s and PhD in Islamic Revealed Knowledge and Human Sciences with a specialization in Usul al-Fiqh (Maqasid al-Shariah in Islamic Banking) from the International Islamic University Malaysia (IIUM).

Throughout his service at USIM, Associate Professor Dr. Muhammad Najib has contributed extensively in various academic and administrative capacities, including as advisor, supervisor, coordinator, and currently as a member of the Faculty Sponsorship Committee. He currently a member of Shariah Advisory Committee for MBSB Bank. He was before served as Chairman of the Shariah Committee for MIDF Amanah Investment Bank Berhad and MIDF Amanah Asset Management Berhad. He is also a member of the Penang Fatwa Committee, Fellow of the Islamic Finance and Wealth Management Institute (USIM), and Trainer at the Institute of Fatwa and Halal (IFFAH) USIM. His expertise further extends to the Ministry of Health as a consultant in facilitating Islamic medical practices in hospitals. Associate Professor Dr. Muhammad Najib is also a member and trainer under Association of Shariah Advisors in Islamic Finance (ASAS) for Maqasid Shariah and Ijtihad, al-ikhtilaf, Ifta’ in Islamic Finance.

Widely recognised for his community engagement, Associate Professor Dr. Muhammad Najib has been invited as a keynote and guest speaker at numerous academic and professional forums, as well as a consultant and trainer for institutions ranging from schools to national-level organisations. His research and consultancy work focus on the application of Maqasid al-Shariah and Maqasidic Ijtihad in contemporary issues, particularly in Islamic finance, Islamic Medical Practice, Hajj and Umrah, and Islamic legal studies, earning him multiple research awards in recognition of his scholarly impact.
