
Professor Dato’ Dr. Ahmad Hidayat is currently an Honorary Professor at the Department of Shariah and Law, Academy of Islamic Studies, University of Malaya, specialising in Islamic law of transactions and property, contemporary issues of fatwa and Shariah courts in Malaysia.
Professor Dato’ Dr. Ahmad Hidayat obtained his Bachelor of Shariah from the University of Malaya, and later pursued further studies at the School of Oriental and African Studies (SOAS), University of London, where he received his LL.M. and PhD. He is also a Certified Shariah Advisor and an accredited mediator under the Australian Accord Group.
He served with the University of Malaya as a lecturer and academic leader until his retirement, holding several key positions including Director of the Academy of Islamic Studies, Deputy Director (Development), and Head of the Department of Shariah and Law. His served as member of University of Malaya Senate and the Accreditation Committee of the Malaysian Qualification Agency (MQA), where he contributed to the development, design and monitoring of Islamic Shariah higher degree curricula. He was also involved in drafting the Programme Standard for Law and Shariah Law under MQA. Currently, he sits as member for Islamic Law National Committee and Shariah Judiciary National Committee.
He has also served as a Shariah adviser and consultant to numerous financial institutions in Malaysia and Singapore. He formerly chaired BIMB’s Shariah Supervisory Council and MNRB’s Shariah Group Committee, and currently chairs the Shariah Advisory Council of Amanah Raya Berhad and member HSBC Amanah Shariah Committee.
Professor Dato’ Dr. Ahmad Hidayat was conferred the DSDK by His Majesty the Sultan of Kedah in conjunction of His Highness’s 88th birthday on 17th January 2016.
