Professor Emeritus Dato’ Dr. Mohd Azmi has been the President and Chief Executive Officer at the International Centre for Education in Islamic Finance (INCEIF) University since October 2017. He was formerly the Director-General at the Islamic Research and Training Institute (RTI), Islamic Development Bank Group, Jeddah, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, being the first Malaysian appointed to that post.

He holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Finance and a Master of Business Administration from Northern Illinois University, United States of America. Subsequently, he completed his PhD in Finance from Bangor University, Wales, United Kingdom. He is also a Fellow of Chartered Professional in Islamic Finance (FCPIF).

Prior to joining INCEIF, he served at the International Islamic University Malaysia (IIUM) in several leadership roles, including Deputy Rector (Academic and Research), Dean of the Institute of Islamic Banking and Finance (IIiBF), and Dean of the Kulliyyah of Economics and Management Sciences. His vast experience spans both academia and international Islamic finance development.

Professor Emeritus Dato’ Dr. Mohd Azmi serves as the President of the International Council of Islamic Finance Educators (ICIFE), President of the International Association for Islamic Economics (IAIE), a member of the Islamic Development Bank President’s International Advisory Panel, and a member of the AAOIFI Education Board. Concurrently, Professor Emeritus Dato’ Dr. Mohd Azmi is a Shariah committee member at Etiqa Takaful Malaysia, Bank Kerjasama Rakyat Malaysia Berhad, and Bank Islam Malaysia Berhad.

Previously, he has served as a member of the Shariah Advisory Council of Securities Commission Malaysia and MUFG Bank Malaysia. He was also formerly appointed as the Islamic Finance Expert Advisor to the Autoriti Monetari Brunei Darussalam (now known as Brunei Darussalam Central Bank).

Professor Emeritus Dato’ Dr. Mohd Azmi has received multiple recognitions, including the Most Outstanding Individual Contribution to Islamic Finance (KLIFF 2015) and the Lifetime Achievement Award in Islamic Economics and Finance (WIEFC Pakistan 2020).
