Mr. Tan Kwang Kherng was appointed as an Independent Non-Executive Director of Etiqa General Insurance Berhad on 23 September 2022. He also serves as a member of the Risk Management Committee of the Board of Maybank Ageas Holdings Berhad.

Mr. Tan is a Chartered Insurer of the Chartered Insurance Institute, United Kingdom and completed The Oxford Advanced Management Program from Templeton College, University of Oxford, United Kingdom. He has over 37 years of experience in the insurance industry across Asia and has held several key management positions in various insurance and reinsurance companies.

Mr. Tan started his career with Anthony Lumsden-Cook, Singapore in 1980 as an Associate Director where he was exposed to the Lloyds market. He then worked with the European Risk Management Company, Singapore [owned by Swiss Reinsurance Company Ltd (“Swiss Re”)] as an Asia Representative in 1985, overlooking the development of captive insurance company in Australia and New Zealand.

Subsequently, Mr. Tan joined Jerneh Insurance Corporation Sdn Bhd, Malaysia as a Manager of Kerry Insurance, Hong Kong and a Director of Kerry Risk Management Company, Singapore from 1985 to 1988, responsible for business planning and strategy development for all insurance and related entities of the Kuok Group. Mr. Tan continued his career with National Insurance Company Berhad, Brunei as a Technical Advisor in 1988. He then joined Union Reinsurance Company, Singapore as the Asia Representative and Principal Officer in 1992 before the company merged with Swiss Re. In 1998, he became the member of Senior Management Team of Swiss Re Zurich, and subsequently as the Head, Marine & Division Underwriting Officer of Swiss Re Hong Kong overseeing Asia, Middle East, Australia and New Zealand as well as member of Global Marine Strategy Committee from 2000 to 2005. He was later appointed as Board member of HSBC Insurance Brokers Ltd in Hong Kong and Singapore from 2005 to 2006. Upon returning to Singapore in 2006, Mr. Tan founded Asia Capital Reinsurance Group Pte Ltd (“ACR Group”) where he was also the Group Chief Executive Officer of ACR Group and Director of ACR Group and its subsidiaries namely Asia Capital Holdings Pte. Ltd., ACR Malaysia Sdn Bhd and ACR Retakaful Sdn Bhd until 2015. He had assisted in setting up of Qianhai Reinsurance Company Ltd, China in 2016 as the Senior Advisor, and was appointed as the Senior Advisor and Asia Representative of The Geneva Association from end of 2016 to end of 2020.

Mr. Tan was a member of the Financial Centre Advisory Panel for the Monetary Authority of Singapore before his retirement from ACR Group. In addition, he was also the Non-Executive Director of Nam Seng Reinsurance Broking Limited, Labuan.
