Datuk Najib was appointed as an Independent Non-Executive Director of Etiqa Life Insurance Berhad on 1 July 2018. He was subsequently appointed as the Chairman of Etiqa Life Insurance Berhad on 1 January 2019. He also serves as member of the Nomination and Remuneration Committee and the Investment Committee of Maybank Ageas Holdings Berhad.

He holds a Master in Business Administration and a Bachelor of Science in Computer Science and Mathematics (Magna Cum Laude) from Northern Illinois University, United States, and is a Fellow Chartered Banker of the Chartered Banker Institute, United Kingdom, and the Asian Institute of Chartered Bankers, Malaysia.

Datuk Mohd Najib began his banking career with Citibank in 1985 and held various senior management positions until 2002. Subsequently, he joined Malaysia National Insurance Berhad as Chief Operating Officer / Financial Controller in 2002 and was appointed Chief Executive Officer (CEO) in 2004. In early 2006, he became Executive Vice President of Malayan Banking Berhad (Maybank). Prior to joining the Maybank Group, he served as Group Managing Director of Malaysian Industrial Development Finance Berhad (MIDF) and CEO of MIDF Amanah Investment Bank Berhad since March 2006 and March 2012 respectively.

Within the Maybank Group, Datuk Mohd Najib serves as a Chairman of Etiqa Family Takaful Berhad and Etiqa General Insurance (Cambodia) PLC. He sits on the Board of Maybank Ageas Holdings Berhad. Outside the Maybank Group, he is also a director of Asia Capital Reinsurance Malaysia Sdn. Bhd. and a trustee of Tabung Amanah Sultan Kedah..
