Mr. Thomas Caris was appointed as a Non-Independent Non-Executive Director and Vice Chairman of Etiqa General Insurance Berhad on 1 February 2025.

Mr. Thomas Caris holds a Master’s degree in Business Studies and Commercial Science from the Catholic University of Leuven-Lessius, Belgium. In 2020, he completed an Executive Programme in Business Administration from Vlerick Business School, Belgium.

Mr. Thomas Caris has extensive experience in the insurance field, specialising in pricing, underwriting, advanced analytics, data science, as well as performance management. His international experience spans several countries, including Belgium, France, Germany, Italy, the United Kingdom (UK) and currently, Hong Kong.

Mr. Thomas Caris began his career at AXA Belgium in November 2007 as a Product/Pricing Leader in the car insurance division. In this role, he had successfully developed new tariff levels, launched innovative products, and negotiated solutions with brokers, while also serving as a pricing expert within the actuarial pricing team.

In April 2011, he moved to AXA Global Lines in Paris, France, as an International Actuarial Consultant where he conducted competitor market analysis, contributed to the AXA Pricing Lab and trained actuaries worldwide on pricing strategies, enhancing the actuarial capabilities of entities across Europe.

In January 2014, Mr. Thomas Caris held the position of International Pricing, Product and Underwriting Manager for Non-Life insurance at Ageas Continental Europe in Brussels, Belgium. He was responsible for overseeing pricing and product management for markets in Turkey, Italy and Portugal. Following this, he became the Chief Product Officer at Cargeas in Milan, Italy, where he played a pivotal role in product management and actuarial pricing as a member of the Executive Committee from August 2015 to August 2018.

In August 2018, Mr. Thomas Caris re-joined the Ageas Group as the Director of Advanced Analytics and Data Science, where he implemented data science activities across all operating companies of the Ageas Group, establishing an Artificial Intelligence/Machine Learning (AI/ML) training centre and fostered a culture of innovation in analytics. Concurrently, he served as the Head of Advanced Analytics and Data Science at Ageas UK, focusing on delivering AI/ML solutions across operations, claims, reserving and underwriting & pricing from August 2018 to May 2023. While serving this role, he expanded his responsibility as Head of Market Pricing (Direct) at Ageas UK from November 2021 to May 2023, where he managed the FCA Pricing reforms within the price optimisation models and ensured streamlined pricing processes.

Mr. Thomas Caris is currently managing the general insurance activities at Ageas Asia, overseeing underwriting, claims, and reinsurance across the Asian Ageas operation companies. He is responsible for building and implementing analytics and artificial intelligence initiatives, driving strategic improvements and operational excellence.

Mr. Thomas Caris is a member of the Board of Belgium-Luxembourg Chamber of Commerce since September 2024.
