Contact your agent/provider ASAP

If you find yourself in a situation needing to make a claim against your insurance policy or takaful certificate, contact your agent or protection provider as soon as possible.

Know the details of your protection coverage. It’s important to know that what you are claiming for is covered by your insurance policy or takaful certificate. If you’re uncertain, check with your agent or customer service.

Compile all the necessary documents and attachments, making sure to double and triple check that all information is correct and complete. You can refer to your claims document checklist to ascertain everything is in order, or get your agent to assist. Incorrect and incomplete documentation can delay the claims process significantly.

If your claim involves factors such as vehicle accidents, fire or theft, make a police report immediately.

Depending on the type of claim you are making, take clear photos and videos from all possible angles, but avoid touching or tampering with potential evidence until the relevant authorities have completed their investigation, especially when it comes to break-ins or property damage from fire, water, etc.

Keep all original receipts, documentation, reports, photos, etc., even after you have filed your claims.

If you require medical treatment, go to a panel hospital or healthcare facility for a smoother claims process. Likewise, if repairs are required to your vehicle or other property and your insurance or takaful provider has a panel of relevant service providers, the claims process will usually be faster and more seamless if you use their services. File your claims within the required timeframe. This varies according to different types of policies and certificates, so check with your agent or provider to find out.

If you don’t need to make a claim just yet, or are subscribing to a new insurance policy or takaful certificate, be proactive and ensure all your current information is complete and correct, including address, phone numbers, contact details, marital status, bank account information, and so on. To avoid confusion or potential conflict, keep the nomination or beneficiary details for your policy and certificate up to date. This information is not updated automatically if you were to get divorced, give birth to another child, and so on, so it is imperative to keep this information as current as possible.

Keep your insurance policies and takaful certificates active at all times by making prompt payments. You cannot make a claim against a lapsed protection policy or certificate, no matter the amount or how long it was active previously.
